Tokyo Girls Collection
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tokyo Girls Collection (東京ガールズコレクション, Tokyo Girls Collection?), sometimes abbreviated as TGC, is a semiannual fashion festival launched in 2005. The fashion event showcases the seasons fashionable streetwear by domestic brands, and are modeled by popular models from various Japanese fashion magazines. The event is open not only to buyers and journalists, but also to the general public.[1] and incorporates live concerts by well-known artists, as well as charity auctions.[2] The event, held by girlswalker.com, a popular mobile web portal, is also broadcasted live on cell phones and the internet, and the products donned by the models are made available for purchase on the spot.[3]

Mona Yamamoto announces retirement from showbiz
Mona YamamotoJapan Today
TOKYO —
Hiroshima-born TV presenter Mona Yamamoto, 35, has announced that she is to retire from the public eye. In a fax distributed to media
agencies this week, she wrote, “I apologize for the suddenness of this news, but as of June 30, I plan to retire from public life and return to my married name.”

Yamamoto, who is daughter to a Norwegian father and a Japanese mother, said, “I have been thinking deeply about what I want from my life and where my choices will lead me. I have decided to accept the challenge of becoming a working mother and housewife and to lead a more regular life. I truly appreciate all of the support my colleagues and the public have kindly given me up until now. To all of those people, I wish to say a heartfelt thank you.”

Yamamoto, an employee of Asahi Broadcasting Corp, has taken breaks from news broadcasting before. In September 2006, she was accused of having an affair with married DPJ politician Goshi Hosono and was forced to step down from her position on TBS’s “NEWS23” program, a job which she had only held for five days.

She was fired again in 2008 from her position as an anchor for Fuji TV after news broke of her affair with Yomiuri Giants player Tomohiro Nioka, who was married at the time. The alleged tryst took place on the eve of her comeback from the first scandal.

Yamamoto married her husband, the president of a real estate investment company, in 2010.

After the verdict, Ogura sent a message to all major media agencies in which she said: “I am sorry if recent disruptions to my work have inconvenienced you. I just want to assure you that I have turned a corner and I am ready to return to working as hard as I can. I really appreciate your continued support.”

TOKYO —
The 13th Tokyo Girls Collection 2011/12 Autumn/Winter will be held at Saitama Super Arena on Saturday Sept 3. The wildly popular biannual collection, which lasts about six hours, draws well over 20,000 young women as well as many foreign media, looking to see the latest “kawaii” (cute) fashions worn by Japanese models and celebrities.

The theme for the September show is Smile for ” “. Organizers said the blank space is for people to fill in as they see fit and added that they hoped the show would help restore hope, courage and strength to girls and make everyone smile again, following the March 11 disaster. For the day, the venue will be renamed Saitama Smile Arena.

“We also hope that girls, who had been hesitant to buy clothes, will remember the magic of shopping—how it makes you smile when you find something cute or wonderful—and enjoy shopping again,” a spokesperson said.

Before and during the six-hour show, the arena will have food and drink stalls showcasing the specialties of the Tohoku region to support the recovery effort.

Models scheduled to participate include Anna Tsuchiya, Yu Yamada, Elena, Karina, Reina Triendl, Maki Nishiyama, Anna Nose, Emiri, and many more. The day’s program also includes live performances by artists, charity auctions and collaborative shows.

Advance tickets go on sale Aug 6 for the general public. Ticket prices range from 5,500 yen for unreserved seats to 15,000 yen for Arena Platinum seats.
